Wu Woyao 1866-1910

Bohemian writer and journalist of the late-Qing dynasty. Originally from Guangdong province, Wu went to Shanghai in the 1920s and became a journalist. In 1898, he established his own journal, Cai feng bao and published several novels after 1902. His most famous works include the novel Ershinian mudu zhi guai xianzhuang [Bizarre happenings eyewitnessed in two decades], the detective novel Jiuming qiyuan [The nine-fold murder], a patriotic account of the fall of the Song dynasty entitled Tong shi [Annals of sorrow], and the novella Hen hai [Sea of woe].
